Uppvidinge Library: your local and virtual meeting place

Are you looking for a really good read? Do you want to be entertained, surprised, amused, upset or just feel good? Do you need information to your school project or maybe a particular book to help you solve a problem at work? Do you want to learn more about gardening? Perhaps you just want to sit down and browse through a magazine? Welcome to Uppvidinge Library!

Uppvidinge Library consists of five combined school and public libraries: Åseda, Älghult, Lenhovda, Nottebäck and Alstermo. There is also a school library at Uppvidinge Gymnasieskola. Our libraries are open to everyone and we offer a wide range of services: books and talking books, large print, language courses, DVDs, newspapers and magazines, online resources, reference and information service, community information, free access to the internet etc.

Joining the library
It is easy to become a library user. Just visit your nearest library and bring some kind of identification with you and you will get your library card straight away. You can also pre-register online. If you, at some point, change address, e-mail address or phone number, please let us know so we can keep our records up to date. You can use your library card at any of our libraries and you can also renew and reserve online and use our online resources. Please note that your library card is a valuable document. You are responsible for all items borrowed on your library card and you will be charged for items that are lost or damaged. Your card may not be used by anyone else and if the card is lost, you will be responsible until you have reported it missing to the library.

Using the library
The normal loan period is 4 weeks for books, talking books and language courses. A shorter loan period can occur. Magazines can be loaned for up to 1 week and DVDs for up to 3 days. You can renew most items (twice) as long as they are not required by other library users. You can renew in person, by telephone or online. If you prefer renewing online you will need your library card number and PIN. If you do not bring your items back on time you will have to pay a fine (N.B. there are no fines on children´s books). Do you want a reminder when it is time to return your loans? Give us your e-mail address and we will send you an e-mail alert 3 days before your loans are due.

For a complete list of all fees, fines and charges please contact your library.

If the library has the item you require but it isn´t available on the shelf, you may reserve it free of charge. If you give us your e-mail address you will be notified by e-mail. Items can also be requested from other libraries outside Uppvidinge on your behalf through our Inter Library Loans Service. However, a small charge is made for this service.

Our online services available 24/7
In our online library catalogue you can search for books, magazines, talking books, DVDs etc in our stock. You can search for example by author, title, classification, keywords or ISBN.
You can also check your loans, renew or reserve directly in our catalogue. To be able to benefit from these special member services you will need your library card number and your PIN. Your card number is on the back of your library card, but to obtain a PIN you will need to contact your library.

Additionally, the library subscribes to several reference databases, which allow you to search for further information. Some of them can only be used at the library, but some databases can be used from any computer. Encyclopaedia Britannica Online, Biography Resource Center, Contemporary Authors and EBSCO are currently available with remote access. Some of them require your library card number and PIN.
